Prior to my trip, while I was excited about seeing 10 of the world’s best players take to the stage in front of over 10,000 fans, I was equally concerned about the crowd being rowdy as at other PLD venues. What this means in practice is simply that we should avoid comparing the three other spending to the total — so for each visualisation, I either use the total or the other three. Having two indenpendent variables (country and time) and one dependent (healthcare spendings) we have data in 3D, but only a 2D surface to plot on (NOTE: this is not entirely true as Tableau allows temporal evolution of data using Pages, while color, size, etc.

In this post, I have gone through the process of how I took a rather boring dataset without any clear take-home messages and turned it into an interesting data story, highlighting the key findings. It fits right on where the compound goes and even has a degree mark for matching to the cross slide.

Here are some of those tips with accompanying blogs to support you when you go to implement them in your next dashboard. There was a chant in an early match, I seriously couldn't believe it, something like "who the f*k are you, who the f**kin' hell are you", plain as day. Going to sound like a darts snob here, but the PL and defo the worlds(you have to go once, and that was enough) is darts for people who don't really follow the game and just want a good piss up. Gone are the days when smoke would curl up and sleep on the Lakeside's ceilings but the ambience remains working men's club.

The other big limitation I have observed has to do with the number of countries being part of the data set.

Implying that those who sit at the tables don't get involved in any jumping around, shouting, singing etc so are therefore labelled boring by those who aren't at tables. As others have said, tt is only a matter of time though until we see something similar in this country, and it will not be at the Lakeside. Powered on, Menzies sweeps into the second round, where he exits to 2010 runner-up Dave Chisnall the following night. They even chose to cheer Wes Newton instead of Phil Taylor in their match, which is comforting in a way as Wes hasn’t got too much love from many casual darts fans.

Illustration: David Humphries for the Guardian While darts is increasingly fashionable, there is something reassuring in the way that its stars remain anything but. Instead they have a crowd looking away from the stage, chanting at / taunting each other with stuff that has nothing to do with the action. I could also choose to animate the map to show the evolution over time — this we are actually going to do later.

There's a Scotsman, an Australian, a Dutchman and an Englishman playing darts – and it's the most popular programme on British pay-TV. By taking the average over time, we can plot the healthcare spendings for each country on a map, as can be seen below. We have successfully created a data story in Tableau, to help convey an interesting set of data insights, using the same dataset as the rather boring and hard-to-understand original graph. Used to be brilliant cos it was like a festival for actual darts fans but over the last few years, it's gone more and more away from that because the real fans have been put off. Most just go to get drunk and sing the same three songs over and over and over and over and over again. The production is good enough that they usally catch the board action and just have momentary cut aways for the crowd shots. British lathes like the Myfords and even the Chinese 9 by 20's have cross slide decks with tee slots so that castings etc. I decided to include a few annotations to point out some interesting findings about Switzerland and Norway, as you can see in the image below.
