Do you believe the Devil exists, Detective?’ the officer at the end of the line asks. ‘Because if you don’t… I’m sure you will once you get here.’

And the motivation between the murders sadden me as well. Because again, it taps the question about society and how they're easily giving out vicious comments on Internet on things that they don't completely know or understand. Simply because it's entertaining. The Internet trolls. The people who are willing to videotape a crime and upload it, comment on it, like/dislike it on Internet. Something thought beyond, subjective and just rudimentarily related to the current state of the investigation, is how technology will enable serial killers to torture, rape, and keep alive victims for months, years, or immortalities. Because, endless life, not aging plus highly advanced future medicine doesn´t just mean jay, but also forever real life hell. This book introduced a secondary female character, Alice Beaumont, that matches Robert's genius mind. At first, I think that she will be quite interesting as love interest for Robert. But as the story goes, I don't like that Alice seems to take the spotlight from Garcia, Robert's partner. I like Robert and Garcia's camaraderie and friendship ... and I feel like it is a bit missing. I even miss Anna, Garcia's wife. When he and his partner are called to the scene of a brutal murder, where the victim has been hung up with a giant fish hook, Hunter begins to wonder if he has reached the edge of the depravity people could inflict on others. With a piece of poetry left at the scene, Hunter and others within the LAPD begin to ponder if this message has a deeper meaning.

The identity of the killer is a bit surprising ... but at the same time, makes me a bit confused Especially for Andrew's murder, when Olivia posed as mechanic ... was she really that strong that she could broke Andrew's jaw? And didn't these man ever saw her before, considering that Olivia was the daughter of Derek, the first victim, who once was their friend -- even if they never keep in touch, but Derek must be in the news once or twice, right? He is a DA for years. Why didn't they surprised/knew her before?. Maybe I miss some hints. But it's still good :)The movie "Untraceable" was released in 2008 and starred Diane Lane. It had the exact same plot, in which a killer broadcasts his murders over the internet. This book was published in 2013, five years later. The killers in both even have the same motive! This book skates uncomfortably close to outright plagiarism! Angering a man holding a three fifty-seven Magnum was a mistake in any imaginable scenario. Angering a serial killer holding a three fifty-seven Magnum was just plain stupid.

This was one twisted, deranged, and disturbed individual. Even serial killers would stop short at this level of depravity and torturous methods, even if it had some dark meaning. I didn’t need to know the gory details of each crime scene, it was enough to tell me someone was tortured. As always the working relationship and chemistry between Hunter and Garcia is a big plus while reading the story and of course Captain Blake that adds a nice female touch to the duo.
