It took a little over five minutes to go from opening the box to winning my first race, a timespan compatible with impatient kids on Christmas morning. Rejigging the circuit takes a few minutes each time, letting you change things up in the middle of a series of races if you start to get bored. Racing a championship, you’re given some virtual opponents and the usual array of items and power-ups: munch a mushroom and the kart gets a little burst of speed, get hit by a shell and it stops dead for a second. Each new race has a new theme, from underwater to Bowser’s Castle. I must admit I had more fun abandoning the races and following the kart around my flat with my four-year-old in tow, gleefully enjoining my to crash it into the baby or explore under the bed. Mario Kart has been a family favourite since the early 1990s thanks to its potent combination of cute characters, speedy but simple racing and an array of red shells, banana skins and other eye-wateringly unfair tools of playful sabotage. Nintendo’s latest experiment in the toy world, made in collaboration with Velan Studios, is an actual Mario remote-controlled kart that comes with a game. Instead of confining all the action to a screen, this lets you race a little car around your living room, using a Nintendo Switch to control it. There are just a few things about the Mario Kart 8 Luigi Anti-Gravity RC Racer that are going to annoy you as a parent. The biggest annoyance I get out of this toy is the noise. It is loud – and when it is zooming around the house you are going to hear it – especially when it is banging into things. For reasons of hygiene and safety, personal grooming products, cosmetics or items of intimate clothing cannot be returned.

I did run into a little issue when we try to operate both the Mario & Luigi RC racers at the same time. Sometimes the frequencies get crossed when you first turn them on, and the Mario control will control the Luigi car and vice versa. Separate them, take them into different rooms and turn them on, and the problem should be eliminated. Really, the only danger comes from the toy being thrown – but I don’t see that as a big issue – or you tripping over the toy. That is most likely, especially if you child is trying to run into your feet – but hopefully we can nip that behavior right away. So, let’s give it a 2 out of 10 on this scale. ***New for 2021*** Luigi RC Racer Video Review The RC cars, driven by a little Mario or Luigi with a little camera positioned behind their heads, are cute and sturdy, and happily withstood frequent collisions around my living room and kitchen and one run-in with the cat. They drive fine on carpet or hard flooring, and on-screen you see a view from behind the character’s head, letting you guide the racer around the room. You might wonder what the point of the toy car is if all you’re doing is looking at a screen anyway; that occurred to me, watching the Switch conjure lightning bolts and weather effects and other things more exciting than what actually happens in my house. As with many toys, it may well be kids’ imaginations that are the magic ingredient here; I am picturing six-year-olds spending all afternoon constructing elaborate courses on the floor before racing them in-game. Yoshi Carrera RC 162108 Official Licensed Mario Kart Yoshi Race Kart 1:16 Scale 2.4 GHz Splash Proof Remote Control CarLet’s start with all the basic information you are going to want to know about the Mario Kart Luigi RC Racer. What is also neat about the Luigi racer, is that it supposed to work up to 100 feet away from the controller! I haven’t tested that out – but that is quite a distance! The racer is relatively heavy – probably weighing a few pounds – even though I haven’t officially weighed it. It is very durable – I’ve seen my children ram this RC racers into furniture and other RC racers to cause a big crash scene. It also annoys me when I must change batteries out of a toy. And this one does have at least 8 that go to it. That is why it is so important to get some rechargeable batteries to go into it – save some money over time. Also, remind your children to turn off the toy – that will save a lot of battery life. Luigi Carrera RC Official Licensed Mario Kart Mach 8 Luigi 1: 18 Scale 2.4 Ghz Remote Radio Control Car
